Get the HOTS

History Off The Shelf (HOTS) is a sociable history site for sixth formers, run by Oxford University. If you're considering doing history at university or looking for hints on your AS/A2 course, it could be very helpful.

You can:

- Browse BLOGS written by current History students at Oxford (what's it *really* like? to study history? What is a 'typical' day? ).

- Listen to PODCAST debates with Oxford historians. They can offer a new approach to your AS/A2 modules (we've currently got podcasts on US Civil Rights, the Great Depression and the Spanish Civil War). They also introduce subjects that you might not get to study at school (such as witchcraft or the student protests of 1968). Oxford historians carry out original research so may be able to offer fresh insights or information which has not yet made it into the textbook.

- Chat to other SIXTH FORMERS in the forum on history in the media and the wider world. Here you can also ask current Oxford history students about applications, interviews and suggestions for wider reading.

- WATCH an Oxford history lecture or Oxford University History Society Lecture from the comfort of your own room. Some of the speakers can be surprisingly entertaining...

- Get LINKS to the best history websites . These include resource and primary source sites (great for personal studies and extended essays), listings of history talks and events as well as really useful history articles.

So, go to www.history.ox.ac.uk/hots and sign up for free.

National Archive

This is certainly worth a look. Some nice primary source material and a lot that is relevant to both the AS and A2 British papers. (click the title to get there)

Prioritise Factors

It is clear that dealing with a range of factors in an essay response is essential. However, the quality of an answer will certainly be enhanced if you prioritise factors. Say which you think is more important and WHY. Should you do so you will undoubtedly do well.

The Blog Is Back

Well it's been such a long long time but here I go again on my own. The blog is back. I intend to update the blog as often as Stoke receive a bad refereeing decision - so that will be at least once a week then.

First off it is very important that you visit this website and in order to access the study centre you will need

User Name - figes

Password - noEvd3Tep

Which is possibly the most convoluted password ever since last years password

Look carefully and you should find some useful articles and general advice.
