History Off The Shelf (HOTS) is a sociable history site for sixth formers, run by Oxford University. If you're considering doing history at university or looking for hints on your AS/A2 course, it could be very helpful.
You can:
- Browse BLOGS written by current History students at Oxford (what's it *really* like? to study history? What is a 'typical' day? ).
- Listen to PODCAST debates with Oxford historians. They can offer a new approach to your AS/A2 modules (we've currently got podcasts on US Civil Rights, the Great Depression and the Spanish Civil War). They also introduce subjects that you might not get to study at school (such as witchcraft or the student protests of 1968). Oxford historians carry out original research so may be able to offer fresh insights or information which has not yet made it into the textbook.
- Chat to other SIXTH FORMERS in the forum on history in the media and the wider world. Here you can also ask current Oxford history students about applications, interviews and suggestions for wider reading.
- WATCH an Oxford history lecture or Oxford University History Society Lecture from the comfort of your own room. Some of the speakers can be surprisingly entertaining...
- Get LINKS to the best history websites . These include resource and primary source sites (great for personal studies and extended essays), listings of history talks and events as well as really useful history articles.
